Decrypt PDF

PDF decryption involves using the correct password to derive the document decryption key, decrypting the encrypted content streams, and writing a new PDF without the encryption dictionary. The output is functionally identical to the original document but with all restriction flags cleared and no password requirement on opening.

There are two distinct scenarios: removing a user password (which was required to open the file) and removing/bypassing an owner password (which restricted operations like printing and copying). Decryption of a user-password-protected PDF requires knowing that password — it's a genuine access control. An owner password restricts what you can do once you've opened the file, but some PDF viewers and processing tools will enforce these permissions while others do not.

This tool is designed for legitimate use cases: unlocking PDFs you own or have authorized access to — documents you've encrypted yourself, received with a password, or files that have lingering protection from an old workflow that no longer applies. It requires you to supply the correct password, meaning it cannot bypass encryption on documents you don't have access to.
