About

Favicon Generator for Complete Multi-Platform Browser Icon Support

A favicon is the small icon displayed in browser tabs, bookmarks, history, and search results that visually represents your website. What seems simple has become surprisingly complex: modern web platforms require multiple icon sizes and formats for different contexts. Chrome on Android needs a 192×192 PNG for the 'Add to Home Screen' prompt. Safari on iOS requires a 180×180 apple-touch-icon. Windows 10's Live Tiles use 144×144 icons. Web App Manifests for PWAs need icons at 192×192 and 512×512. And legacy browsers still expect a multi-size .ico file.

Creating all these manually from a single source image requires image editing software, multiple export operations, and careful naming conventions. Our favicon generator automates all of this: upload a PNG, JPEG, SVG, or even enter initials/text, and receive a complete favicon package containing every size and format you need, along with the HTML `<link>` and `<meta>` tags to paste into your `<head>` element and a `site.webmanifest` file for PWA support.

The generator uses a smart upscaling approach: if your source image is smaller than the largest required icon size, it applies bicubic interpolation rather than nearest-neighbor scaling, producing clean-looking icons at all sizes. SVG input is rasterized at native resolution for each target size, ensuring pixel-perfect rendering at every scale.

What makes it unique

Complete Favicon Package: Every Icon Size and Format, Ready to Deploy

A complete favicon implementation covers four icon categories across all major platforms:

Browser (16×16, 32×32, 48×48) — Standard browser tab icons for all desktop browsers. The multi-size favicon.ico embeds all three dimensions in a single file.

Apple (57×57 to 180×180) — iOS home screen icons used when a visitor saves your site to their iPhone or iPad. The apple-touch-icon at 180×180 is the primary size for modern devices.

Android (36×36 to 512×512) — Android home screen icons and PWA icons. The 192×192 and 512×512 sizes are required in your Web App Manifest for the 'Add to Home Screen' prompt and splash screen.

Microsoft (70×70 to 310×310) — Windows Live Tile icons for pinned Start Menu and taskbar entries, configured via browserconfig.xml.

The ZIP download includes: favicon.ico (multi-size ICO with 16×16, 32×32, and 48×48 embedded), site.webmanifest (PWA manifest with icon references), browserconfig.xml (Microsoft tile configuration), and all PNG icon files for every platform size listed above.

Common Use Cases for the Favicon Generator
1

New Website Setup

Convert your logo or brand mark into a complete favicon package ready to drop into your project's public folder — covering all browsers, mobile home screen icons, and PWA manifest requirements in one step.

2

Progressive Web App Icons

Generate the 192×192 and 512×512 maskable icons required in your Web App Manifest for the PWA 'Install App' prompt to appear on Android and Chrome desktop.

3

Quick Text or Initial Favicons

Generate a favicon from a text initial (e.g., the first letter of your site name) with a custom background color — useful for internal tools, dashboards, and prototypes that need a distinct favicon without a full logo.

How to Use
  1. 1

Upload Your Source Image or Enter Text

Drag and drop a PNG, JPEG, SVG, or WebP image (recommended minimum 512×512 px for sharp results), or switch to text mode and enter 1–2 initials with a background color to generate a text-based favicon.

  2. 2

Preview at All Sizes and Configure Options

Inspect previews at 16×16, 32×32, 64×64, 180×180, 192×192, and 512×512 to confirm the icon looks correct at small sizes. Optionally apply padding (for maskable icons) and choose whether to include an SVG variant.

  3. 3

    Download the Complete Favicon Package

Click Download Package to receive a ZIP containing: favicon.ico (multi-size: 16×16, 32×32, 48×48), site.webmanifest (PWA manifest), browserconfig.xml (Microsoft tiles), and all PNG icons for Browser, Apple, Android, and Microsoft platforms. A ready-to-paste HTML snippet is included for wiring up all icons in your document `<head>`.

  4. 4

Add the Tags to Your Document Head

Place the generated tags in your HTML `<head>`: standard favicon links for .ico and PNG, apple-touch-icon links for iOS (180×180, 152×152, 120×120), the manifest link for Android and PWA, Microsoft Tile meta tags (msapplication-TileColor, msapplication-config), and the theme-color meta tag for mobile browser chrome.
